A key member of the National Rifle Association and ally of former President Donald Trump is pitching Donald Trump Jr. to take over for former NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre.

However, a source close to Trump told Secrets this morning that “it’s not something he has any interest in doing.”

Trump has shifted most of his time to boosting his father’s presidential campaign and moving in as a key surrogate as the 45th president fights off multiple legal challenges from the Biden administration and liberal state prosecutors.

The Reload reported today that NRA board member Bill Bachenberg suggested in an email to other board members that Trump would be a good fit to replace LaPierre, who resigned recently after months of legal troubles personally and for the nation’s top gun lobby.

“A couple of years back Don Trump Jr. contacted me if NRA was looking for a National Spokesperson, he saw the need,” Bachenberg wrote in the email. “He did preface, ‘I don’t want to deal with any of the operational bull****.’ I’m not sure what he would say today, but when the time is right I can ask him if he might be interested if requested by the board,” he added, according to the Reload.

The Trump ally said that Don Jr. was very appreciative of the suggestion but that he plans instead to keep focused on the election. He was campaigning for his father this week.

“For years now, people close to the NRA have reached out to Don about taking a senior role in the organization. While Don is appreciative that people would think of him for such a role, it’s not something he has any interest in doing and he has made that clear repeatedly to anyone who has broached the subject with him. His only interest over the next year is doing everything in his power to help ensure that his father is the next president of the United States,” the source told Secrets.

Both Trumps have been supportive of the NRA and the Second Amendment. Don Jr. is an avid hunter and target shooter.

The former president recently spoke to NRA members and outdoor enthusiasts during the NRA-sponsored Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It was his eighth speech to the group.

“During my four years nothing happened. And there was great pressure on me having to do with guns. We did nothing. We didn’t yield,” he said. “Your Second Amendment will always be safe with me as your president,” he added.
