Democratic congressional candidate Will Cunningham has received the 2020 Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate Distinction from Everytown for Gun Safety.

“Now, more than ever, it is paramount to the safety and security of this nation that our elected leaders fight to prevent gun violence and govern with a mindset of gun safety,” Cunningham said.  “As a nation, we must fight to keep guns out of the wrong hands by mandating comprehensive background checks on all gun sales and closing any loopholes that allow for unchecked guns in our communities. We must hold the gun industry and the NRA accountable for the irreparable damage they have caused to our society.”

Moms Demand Action, one of the nation’s largest grassroots gun safety advocacy groups, has also given the designation to another candidate in the 2nd district Democratic race, Amy Kennedy, as well as Joe Biden and Cory Booker.

Before his party switch, Van Drew faced criticism in the 2018 Democratic congressional primary for his 100% rating from the National Rifle Association.

“It is time our elected leaders take a stand and fight to prevent gun violence,” said Cunningham. “I promise to never back down in the fight to keep South Jerseyans safe and I will work tirelessly to close all gun loopholes and bring much-needed gun reform to this nation.”
