ENOUGH: Parents of the Uvalde victims confront Abbott at the Texas Governor's mansion

Parents of the children massacred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas are fed up – and they’re letting the Governor of Texas know it. Family members of the children and teachers killed on May 24th converged on Governor Greg Abbott’s mansion in Austin to let them know how they feel.

Gathering a little after 5 AM, protestors held up portraits of the slain children and played audio of their voices on a loop.

“If we can’t sleep, neither can you,” shouted one parent.

“These are the voices of our children!” Brett Cross, whose son Uziyah died in the shooting, yelled into a bullhorn. “This is all we have left because you don’t give a damn.”

The parents, along with gun reform groups like March For Our Lives, have pushed to the Governor to call a special session about raising the age limit to buy assault weapons from 18-21. Abbott dismissed their entreaties.

Abbot was deflecting a narrative that he never intended to uphold. While his rival for the Texas Governor’s seat, Beto O’Rourke was visiting the families of the children killed in person, Abbott was sending an email through his press secretary.

“As Governor Abbott has said from day one, all options remain on the table as he continues working with state and local leaders to prevent future tragedies and deploy all available resources to support the Uvalde community as they heal,” Press Secretary Renae Eze wrote in an email. “More announcements are expected in the coming days and weeks as the legislature deliberates proposed solutions.”

Just days after the shooting, Gov. Greg Abbott appeared in a pre-recorded video at the NRA convention in Houston – pandering to 2nd Amendment fanatics after telling the grieving Uvalde parents he was going to do something.

Since Abbott was elected there have been mass shootings at a church in Sutherland Springs, TX (2017), at a high school in Santa Fe, TX (2018), at a Walmart in El Paso (2019), and in Uvalde in 2022 — all of which he ignored and dismissed.

Brett Cross called him out on his lack of empathy for the survivors and parents, saying:

“We asked him if he could name a victim, and he said no,” Cross told HuffPost. “He couldn’t name one. He said, “Not off the top of my head.”

Greg Abbott may not know their names, but their parents do.
