Renee Hoagenson addresses the audience during a forum for the two Democratic primary candidates for the 4th U.S. Congressional District on Friday at Columbia Country Club. Members of the audience were allowed to ask questions for both candidates to answer. Candidates were then given a certain amount of time to answer each question.
A previous version of this story misreported a fact about Hallie Thompson's education. She is currently a plant sciences doctoral candidate.
Although some of the people at Friday’s forum for 4th District U.S. congressional seat brought questions about policy, the debate between Democratic candidates Renee Hoagenson and Hallie Thompson came down to who can beat Republican incumbent Vicky Hartzler — and how.
Hoagenson, a small-business owner who’s lived for more than 40 years in the 4th District, emphasized the longevity of her campaign, while Thompson, a 28-year-old plant sciences doctoral candidate, underscored her roots in the community. The two are competing for the Democratic nomination that will be decided in the Aug. 7 primary election.
